Richard Murphy is a manager who has over eight years restructuring and advisory experience having started his career with Ireland’s largest restructuring team, where he gained hands on onshore experience in business turnarounds, pre-pack receiverships, and contentious liquidations. Richard then joined the internal restructuring unit of AIB Bank where he was responsible for management and reporting on the deleveraging of the bank’s non-performing loans and other non-core assets. In 2013 Richard moved to the Cayman Islands and joined a boutique offshore insolvency firm where he gained experience in the restructuring and wind down of offshore funds and companies registered in the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
Richard specialises in liquidation services in Cayman and the British Virgin Islands including the management and realisation of complex cross boarder asset in insolvent vehicles. Richard has extensive experience in a number of investment strategies, including life settlements, alternative investment, distressed debt, trading businesses, life assurance, non-performing loans, land and real estate and other private equity strategies. Richard also manages liquidations of solvent companies and funds registered in the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands and Delaware. Richard has an in depth knowledge of the latest regulatory developments concerning mutual funds and is able to advise clients on the options available to close down end of life vehicles in Cayman and the British Virgin Islands.
Richard also provides fiduciary services and support to clients who are winding down their operations outside of a liquidation and has experience in providing cost and resource efficient platforms to allow ongoing vehicles to wind down their operations without statutory framework of a liquidation. They include large US real estate funds, offshore restructuring vehicles, litigation funding vehicles and various distressed funds with assets in the US, India and Europe.
Richard is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a member of the Restructuring and Insolvency Specialists Association in the Cayman Islands, INSOL International and the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants.
